Visayan Electric brings early Christmas joy to the pediatric cancer patients of Perpetual Succour Hospital

For children, Christmas is one of the most, if not the most, fun holidays—school’s out, they go around the neighborhood caroling, families go Christmas shopping, and they spend the days playing with siblings, cousins, and friends. While this is true for many, Christmas is a different experience for the pediatric cancer patients at Perpetual Succour Hospital.

Spending most of their time within the hospital’s white walls, holidays like Christmas often come and go for these young patients. At an age when most children are preoccupied with holiday festivities, they have come to understand that there are more pressing matters, like treatment, that take precedence over traditional celebrations.

Recognizing this, Visayan Electric’s Kaibigan Batch 3 decided to bring the spirit of Christmas early to pediatric cancer patients at Perpetual Succour Hospital.

Through the Kaibigan Care Kit: An Early Gift of Kindness and Cheer Project, held in collaboration with Kythe Foundation Cebu and the VECO Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (VEMCO), an early Christmas celebration was organized for these brave kids. Each patient, as well as their guardians, received a gift box containing essential hygiene kits. Arts and crafts materials were also provided to uplift their spirits and give them a creative outlet.

Additionally, grocery packs containing basic food items and household essentials were distributed to help alleviate some of their financial pressures while they cared for their sick children.

Shalom Rea “Shao” V. Bernales from Kythe Foundation Cebu expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Visayan Electric for creating a memorable experience for the Kythe kids and their families.

“On behalf of Kythe Foundation Inc., we extend our deepest appreciation to Visayan Electric’s Kaibigan Batch 3. The event was truly unforgettable for our Kythe kids and their families—a day filled with fun and surprises, which embodies the spirit of Kythe,” she expressed.

Through this simple gesture, Visayan Electric hopes to bring joy and positivity to the lives of the pediatric cancer patients of the Perpetual Succour Hospital and their families.
