Sharing a chair is a thing of the past for LWES school children. Leonard Wood Elementary School children will now be able to attentively participate in their class, as they are now comfortably and individually seated on arm chairs. |
* * * * * * The Visayan Electric Company's (VECO) corporate social responsibility (CSR) that focuses on education revisited one of its beneficiaries last September 10, the Leonard Wood Elementary School (LWES) in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.VECO came back to LWES to fulfill its promise in giving out 150 arm chairs to address the school's lack of chairs. VECO promised to LWES after it had turned over a refurbished one-storey, three-classroom school building last May 27. The turnover ceremony was attended by Chairman of Education Committee Mandaue City Council Demetrio Jun Cortes, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Virginia Zapanta, LWES Principal Joverlie Canoy, LWES PTA President Leticia Diago, Jagobiao Barangay Councilor Jerry Lim, VECO AVP for Human Resources Mia Carmela Cuenco, VECO Community Relations Manager Eric Ching, VECO AVP for Information Systems Group Lito Masion and other 30 VECO employees. Ching, mentioned that VECO is always willing to help and that the project will not be the last that the school will be receiving. Zapanta envisioned that the children will someday become the assets of our society, thus, their learning in school will be beneficial to their future. Canoy shared that though the society and the government are pushing for an "Education for All" financial constraints impedes the implementation. They hardly even have enough classrooms and lesser chairs. They are happy that among the 47 schools in the entire Mandaue City, they were among those fortunate enough to receive the donations. Councilor Cortes said that the children will now be able to sit and study comfortably with the chairs. Councilor Lim expressed his gratitude to VECO who is always willing to help the children of LWES. Aside from the donation of chairs, 200 children brought home bags of canned goods, rice and noodles for their families. VECO's Power Runners Club also gave a merienda treat to LWES children. (PR) |
