VECO cleans its neighborhood
61 VECO employees volunteered in the company-initiated Clean up drive last June 18, 2011.
The CSR activity benefited VECO's neighboring barangay, Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City. Led by Community Relations Manager Eric Ching and Assistant Vice-president for Human Resources Mia Carmela Cuenco, employees individually brought broom sticks, dust pans, and sacks to collect all scattered wastes seen at the sidewalks and ditches along the stretch of J. Panis Street up to Mahiga Creek. They also segregated biodegradable from non-biodegradable wastes.
The activity was VECO's way to support Cebu City Ordinances 1361 and 2031: No Segregation, no collection of garbage (a policy that imposes proper waste disposal which further states that garbage not well segregated will not be collected). The clean up drive also aimed in promoting awareness to VECO's residential and commercial neighbors, that a clean environment is important to one's health.
