Dr. Judy Cajegas of the Visayan Electric Company performs the free operation tuli (circumcision) at Calamba Barangay Hall, Cebu City. Ma. Regina de Gracia, a Veco-kaibigan (standing right) assists in the operation.
The Visayan Electric Co., Inc. (Veco) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goes beyond sustainability projects by holding its first Operation Tuli last April 30 at Calamba Barangay Hall, Cebu City. Veco's first medical mission, dubbed as “Astig Ka Boy”, circumcised 50 boys from ages 5-12 for free.
Each child brought home Veco's complete package of free medication for post-operation. Two medical doctors facilitated the circumcision for the whole day, assisted by six nurses and eight Veco-kaibigans.
“Astig Ka Boy” is a project under the Primary Health and Child Care Program of the Aboitiz Foundation Inc. that responds to the need of adolescent boys in their journey to manhood. Circumcision is an embedded practice in the Filipino culture that is also a hygienic practice for the health care of men.
Parents took the opportunity in bringing their sons to avail of the free circumcision. According to the parents, the operation tuli was a big help to their budget, especially now that enrollment of classes is fast approaching.
Mr. Ching committed that the Operation Tuli will be an annual summer activity, as Veco's way of giving back to the community for their continuous patronage. [Press Release]
